A torn or over stretched muscle is known as pulled back muscle. The muscle gets strained. When the back muscles are strained then we call it pulled back muscles pain. Along with injury, there is inflammation, which is considered to be part of the healing process. The inflammation causes much pain and can also trigger off muscle spasms. If the back is over strained or overloaded with heavy things, then the muscles get strained causing pain.
Overusing a muscle also causes much pain. When the muscle is stretched too much it results in injury to the muscle. Improper posture, while working on a computer or watching T.V. can result in such pain and discomfort.
Causes of pulled muscle in back
The primary causes of pulled muscle in back are:
- Muscle strain can occur in case you do not lift things properly or lift things that are too heavy.
- A heavy load on the back can also cause muscle strain.
- Unexpected twist of the back or falling down can also cause strain.
- The pain is generally caused by tearing or overstretching the back muscles.
- At times an irritation of the spinal joint can also cause muscle spasms.
- When you sit in a particular position for too long the back muscles get strained. When you shift the position, then the workload pressure goes on to other muscles.
- Also repetitive movements can also cause pressure on the muscles. Increased back muscle exercise can also cause muscle pain because of overuse injuries.
- Poor posture also forces the muscles to work harder causing pain, fatigue and discomfort.
Symptoms of Pulled Back Muscle
- Back Pain
- Muscle weakness.
- Spasms of the back muscle.
- Muscle stiffness.
Treatment of Pulled Back Muscle.
- Give the back adequate support.
- Protect and support the muscles. One needs to reduce the pain and inflammation.
- Massage, ultrasound as well as gentle chiropractic can be beneficial to the injury.
- One can apply ice and go in for ice massage within the 48 hours of the occurrence of the injury that causes strain of the back muscles.
- Heat therapy. One can alternate heat therapy with cold massage therapy or application.
- Herbal and vitamin and mineral supplements.
- Meditation and Yoga to relax the back.
- Proper diet.
- Stretching.
- Mild exercises.
On the whole, it takes about six weeks to recover from a pulled back muscle. Scar tissues continue to form even after six weeks and sometimes they can do so for over a year in case the back pain is very severe.
Pulled back muscles can cause much discomfort and pain. One must ensure that one sits properly, while watching T.V or working on a computer. One must not over strain the back.

Hi I don’t even know how I pulled a muscle on my back, I do weight lifting 3 times a week. but now it hurts when i walk or move even. but i’m sure it will sort itself out?
