The immediate treatment of a leg cramp is to stand up and put your weight on your legs. This should always be done immediately before the cramp becomes unmanagable.

I have been told to stand up (stand on your heel only) and I have found that gives immediate relief.

I have noticed some sports people are given a spray into their mouths by their trainer/coach etc when they get leg cramps during a game. I assume this is to ease the cramping. Does anyone know what that spray is? Cheers.

I have suffered very severe leg cramps for several years, so bad that I can not stand because my foot or feet are pointed down in the spasm and all the muscles are rock hard! On one occasion the cramp resulted in bruising from my ankle to the back of my knee which lasted 10 days.
After trying everything I could think of and seeing numerous doctors I accidentally discovered that taking two antihistamines before going to bed reduced the occurrence by about 85%. Perhaps someone else will find this useful.

The info provided is useful. Thanks. I am suffering from some nervous damage since childhood. These days I am having muscle cramp though the frequency is once a month. Its very painful for 10 minutes, I wake up. bear the pain and sleep again. Some times I am not able to walk for couple of days after the cramp. Hot water fermentation, application of balm and immediately covering up it with warm cloth for some time really helps. Another thing – please avoid too cool Air conditioning. A moderate temperature which your body can be comfortable with. Please use night trousers to cover up the whole leg. Simply precautions make big differences…… Wish you all good health
