What is Smoking?

The inhalation and exhalation of smoke from burning tobacco in the form of cigarettes, cigars and pipes is known as smoking. Historically smoking in the West was done as part of rituals and for medicinal purposes. It started in the late 1500s. Now smoking is a fad. It is a social prestige as well a regular habit.

Smokers smoke tobacco to relieve tensions and pressures of life. Both the sexes, that is men and women smoke and even teenagers have taken to smoking. Efforts have been on to control smoking and anti-smoking campaigns have been held to ban smoking in public places. In fact, in many countries smoking has been banned in public places. The anti-smoking campaigners have focused on the ill-effects of smoking on health.

Quite a few smokers get addicted to nicotine. They simply cannot do without a cigarette. They end up being chain smokers. Obviously, their health gets affected due to excessive smoking.

Teenagers often follow adults and take to smoking at an early age. In their adulthood, they face health problems. Efforts are on to make children aware that smoking is bad for health.

Smoking is definitely a habit which is detrimental to health. Yet, people smoke. It provides them relief from daily tensions.
