Abscesses in the skin are formed are formed when you leave cuts, scrapes and minor wounds open. Foreign materials like bacteria gain entry into the cuts and infect them. As a reaction to these foreign materials, the body sends white blood cells (WBCs). The WBC’s fight the microbes, which have already begun feeding on the body cells. As a result, pus cells collect in the affected area and an abscess is formed. Abcess causes skin to swell. This swelling can be yellow or reddish in color.
Abscesses on the skin are formed due to the following reasons:

Abcess causes skin to soften. The area becomes, hot, tender and painful upon touch or even otherwise. Fever, chill and nausea are signs that the abscess has gone beyond the superficial layer of the skin. Hence, abscesses should not be ignored and proper medical care should be ensured. Otherwise, abcess causes skin cells to die and leads to gangrene. The infection spreads and the neighboring areas affected. Treatment includes draining of the pus cells and antibiotics as prescribed by your doctor.
