Is honey safe for Diabetics?

Honey is tasty and one would like to have more of it. A normal healthy person can take as much as he wants. A diabetic on the other hand has to restrict his or her intake of honey, although they can eat it.

Diabetes happens to be a fundamental disorder of metabolism, primarily concerned with the intake of carbohydrates. It is a health condition whereby our body system fails to convert sugar into energy. Obesity is major cause of Diabetes. Excessive body fat is due to high intake of sugar and carbohydrates.

A diabetic has to count his or her calories intake. He or she has to avoid sugary substances as they would raise the blood sugar levels.

How honey in take affects diabetics?
Honey is a nutritive sweetener and contains carbohydrates as well as calories. Diabetes can have it but since it contains carbohydrates, which if taken in large amounts can increase the blood sugar levels. The best thing to do is to test it out. Take a sweetener and test it and see if the carbohydrates in it raise your blood sugar levels. Test the blood sugar levels before you eat and 2 hours later after you have it. In case there is an increase in blood sugar levels after you eat honey then take of nonnutritive sweetener.

Honey is sweeter than sugar. Since it also contains carbohydrates, one should use it in moderation. Some people prefer the taste of honey to sugar. Diabetics should count the calories in the honey portion that they consume.

It happens to be a more purer form of sugar and is superior in nutrition. It is better for our body as compared to sugar. Honey is about 3 times more sweeter as compared to sugar. It also contains more carbohydrates and calories than sugar, so one does not gain much from the usage of it except one may prefer the taste.

Having honey in moderation is fine. Honey is about 80% natural containing fructose as well as glucose. Vitamins are plenty in honey. These are B6,niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, pantothenic acid as well as certain amino acids.

Diabetes can have honey but in moderation as it also contains carbohydrates. Some people prefer having honey to sugar as they prefer the taste.
