Evidence is to the effect of coffee lovers being protected against the risk of diabetes. This is what Americans seem to be gaining by having lots of coffee. After all coffee lovers cannot do without their coffee.
Why have Decaffeinated Coffee?
Drinking decaffeinated coffee protects one from developing the Type 2 Diabetes by about 60%. This has been revealed in a new study conducted recently. The study findings conducted by Besa Smith and her team of University of California, San Diego appeared in the November issue of the journal Diabetes Care.
The study also states those who drank coffee and left it are also less likely to develop Type 2 Diabetes.
Earlier studies conducted have also claimed similar results. In 2004, a Finnish study stated that there was a 30% reduction in developing Type 2 Diabetes in the case of those who drank about 3 to 4 cups of coffee on a daily basis. The study further highlights that those women who had 10 cups of coffee per day had 79% less risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.
Why Avoid Caffeine?
Caffeine is usually considered bad for health and having decaffeinated coffee is alright. Caffeine increases blood sugar levels. According to US researchers in the journal Diabetes Care caffeine pill that are equal to 4 cups of coffee can increase blood sugar levels by 8% over the entire day. Earlier studies showed that caffeine increases our body’s resistance to the insulin. The latter is a hormone which manages the glucose levels in the blood. But this was not a problem in the case of healthy people according to a study conducted by Dr. James Lane of Duke University Medical School.
More research is required before diabetics can stop taking coffee. The best way out is of course to eat healthy and do a lot of exercise.
