Common food myths

Foods cooked in aluminium utensils leads to cancer – This myth totally lacks scientific research. Any trace of aluminium is absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract.

Fish and milk combination is harmful – No ill effect have been reported on taking fish and milk together of this myth is erroneous.

Skipping breakfast is good way of dieting – Breakfast is the most important meal of the day and should not be avoided. This give you energy to keep you going throughout the day.

Adults do not need milk – Milk a rich source of calcium is required to enhance the growth of teeth and bones. Milk is required for both adults and children equally.

Skimmed milk give little nutrition – Skimmed milk is low in fat and vitamin A but are still very nutritive.

Toast has less calories then bread – The calorie value of bread is unchanged by toasting as the things lost during the process is only water. Some starch is also dextrinised but it doesn’t change the energy that is derived from bread.

Honey is not fattening – No, honey is fattening. Intake of excess calories leads to fat deposition. 1 tbsp of honey has higher calorific value then sugar with 65 and 45 calories respectively.

Papaya eaten during pregnancy causes abortion – This is not true as the effect of enzyme papain gets nullified as fruit ripens. Papaya is rich in beta carotene and fibre.

    i have been hearing from childhood that eating a combination of fish and milk results in causing

    leucoderma. how far is this theory correct?

    “Adults do not need milk” is NOT a myth! It IS a myth that you have to drink milk to get calcium. There are many sources of calcium such as leafy greens which are loaded with it. Adults, and even children past a certain age, do not need milk. Humans are the only animal species that consume milk as adults. It isn’t natural. That’s why so many people have so called “lactose intolerance”. It’s not some abnormal condition like they’re made to believe. Their bodies are SUPPOSED TO BE intolerant of lactose.
