  • Long pepper is very beneficial for treating influenza. Take about ½ teaspoonful of long pepper powder and mix with 2 teaspoonful of honey and ½ teaspoon of ginger juice and take it 3 times in a day. It is good to take it in the initial stage of the illness
  • Garlic is a good anti-septic and one should take as much as he or she is able to bear
  • Turmeric is also very good in treating influenza. Take 1 teaspoonful of turmeric and mix it with 1 cup of warm milk and drink it. It prevents any complications that might occur due to the disease and activate liver, which becomes sluggish due to the attack
  • Onion is very beneficial. Take equal amounts of onion juice and honey and take 3-4 teaspoonful of this juice
  • Ginger is very good. Take about a teaspoonful of ginger juice then add it to 1 cup decoction of fenugreek. You could also add some honey for better taste. It increases sweating and reduces fever. One can prepare the fenugreek decoction by boiling about 1 tablespoonful of fenugreek seeds in about half litre of water, till it reduces to about 1/3rd
  • One can fumigate the burnt flour of the finger millet and inhale it gently. It will enhance blood circulation in the nasal mucosa, reduces local congestion, and opens up the stuffed up nose
  • Grape fruit tones up the body
  • Holy basil leaves are also very useful in the treatment of influenza. Take about 1 gram of these leaves
  • During the acute stage, one should avoid solid foods and take plenty of vegetable and fruit juices
  • After the fever comes down one should take a diet consisting of all fruits
  • Avoid spicy food, alcohol and tobacco
  • One should avoid red meat
  • Ayurveda drugs such as Saptala, Kasmarda, Tulasi etc.are also useful in treating influenza
