Nourishment for Skin

Posted on February 5, 2006 in Skin & Hair Remedies

No doubt the lotions and creams have their uses but most essential element in skin-care is water. As a grape becomes a raisin as it dehydrates, so become skin wrinkles, if its moisture is lost. Hence drinking at least eight glasses of water or other portable drinks like juices soups etc. per day is essential to make your skin get its due moisture nourishment.

Protein intake is another requirement as, like all other body tissue, the skin is made up of proteins. Indeed, a good mixed diet supplying all the essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals contribute greatly to all round good health.

Food rich in Beta Carotene and Vitamin ‘A’ help to regulate oil production and promote cell formation-both vital for a healthy skin. Vitamin ‘A’ helps maintain soft skin and builds resistance to infections. A deficiency of Beta Carotene and Vitamin ‘A’ can result in flaky skin with clogged pores and spots, causes of many skin ailments. Vitamin ‘C’ helps strengthen Capillaries (delicate blood vessels) in the skin and promotes the healing of wounds. The ‘B’ vitamin reduces facial oiliness and blackhead formation, and helps to prevent eczema. Vitamin E improves the circulation in facial Capillaries and generally aids in heating. Among the minerals, Calcium gives soft, smooth skin, and iron improves pale skin. Potassium is good for dry skin, and zinc helps in healthy.

However, natural skin functions can be inhabited by the state of your overall health, and most ailments will affect the skin. For instance, stress can encourage a number of unsightly eruptions in the skin (at some stage), such as acne and rash. Then there are specific skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis, which are caused by imbalance in the body system.

    Hi,
I am trying to find out what effect,if any, coffee has on the skin. Does it cause it to become dry, and if so how? Do you have the answer or do you know where I might find the answer?

    Thanks!
