Backache is one of the most common ailments and it is there from the times when men stood upright. Whenever you feel pain while standing sitting standing or while lifting weight you could suspect that this is due to backache.

Back pain is very common many suffer from it. Unless it is an injury or a slip disc, the doctor cannot do much about it except prescribe some pain killers. It occurs in case you have lifted something heavy, or sat in an uncomfortable position or overworked yourself etc. Often people suffering from it are requested to take some rest.

Although medications are prescribed to relieve back pain, there are home remedies available to get rid of the pain.

Causes of back pain
Backache could be caused by poor posture, working for long hours in one position either sitting or standing. Women could also feel backache during menstrual cycles.

  • Back strain.
  • Injury of the back muscle.
  • Strained ligaments.
  • Too much lifting of heavy objects.
  • Slipped disc.
  • Disc disorders.
  • Chronic ailments such as abdominal disorders, arthritis, Peptic ulcers, Tuberculosis, Dynsmenorrhea among women, Osteoporosis and bone cancer.

Home remedy for back pain

  • Garlic is one of the most common home remedies for common ailments. It holds good in backache too. Take 2-3 cloves of garlic every morning or take a massage with garlic oil in the area of pain.
  • Raw Potato could be used in the form of poultice, which could be very effective solutions for backache.
  • Make a mixture of lemon juice and common salt and take it 2 times a day for relief from backache.
  • Avoid fatty, spicy and fried foods.
  • Take plenty of salad that should include raw vegetables such as radish, lettuce, cucumber, cabbage, carrot and tomato.
  • Boil about 10 Basil leaves in a cup of water till the amount is reduced to half a cup. Add some salt to it for cooling it. Have the mixture daily. In case the back pain is very severe, have it twice in day.
  • Include in your diet cabbage, tomatoes, carrot, lettuce, cauliflower, fruits, spinach etc.
  • One can massage the back with some mint oil.
  • Have a half teaspoonful of goggulu twice daily with some warm water.
  • Mix the juice of 1 lemon with some common salt and let the patient have twice on a daily basis.
  • One can use a hot water bottle.
  • Apply raw potato in the form of poultice.

Other daily activities could be incorporated in your life to prevent or have relief in backache:

  • Often a person suffering from back pain prefers to lie down on the bed in order to get some rest. Doctors at the same time recommend that they walk around about as the back pain worsens if you just lie down. Bed rest often weakens the back muscles and increases the pain.
  • Do light exercise regularly.
  • While bending, bend your knees.
  • Keep a straight posture while sitting or else upper back pain while sitting could happen
  • Do not try to lift weight, which you can't.
  • Don't sleep on your stomach.
  • One can apply an ice pack where the pain occurs as it eases the pain and prevents the pain signals from proceeding further. Ice will reduce the inflammation
  • A hot bath also provides relief from the pain. One can soak the back for about 20 minutes. Pregnant women must not sit in a hot bath tub long.
  • Purchase a new mattress. A soft, sagging mattress may result in back pain.
  • Adequate sleep is essential. One must sleep well and feel rested.
  • Massaging the back also helps.
  • One must also relax. Emotional problems can cause back pain.
