Vitamin - sources and benifits

Polish researcher Dr. Cacimir Funk coined Word "Vitamin". Vitamin or "Vitamine" as the original word was called means vital amine. Originally Vitamin designates food substances, which cured beriberi. Later other terms were proposed as new factors were discovered for it.

Vitamins are potent organic compounds, which are found in small concentrations in foods. They have a vital role in body chemistry. In simple words we could call them spark, which helps to run human motors. They cannot be manufactured or synthesized except for some exceptions. Even in case of organic foods its percentage is very less. In order to get proper vitamins from foods, it is essential to get them from foods regularly or via dietary supplements.

There are several kinds of vitamins, which differ with each other in terms of their chemical structure and distribution in foods. They are of 2 types - fat-soluble and water-soluble. Fat-soluble vitamins are A, D, E and K. These vitamins are stored mostly in liver and are not lost by ordinary cooking methods. Vitamin C and B complex are water-soluble vitamins. These vitamins can be easily dissolved in water. A portion of these vitamins is lost while cooking.

Vitamins cannot be stored in body and it has to be fed with fresh inputs. Extra quantity is generally eliminated from the body.

Vitamins help body to fight with diseases and recover from it faster. They are used for fighting deficiency and treating the same. Vitamins are non-toxic and have minimum side effects and it has miraculous healing properties.
